SPRING!!!!!!!

My Primroses are in bloom, I'll get pictures of the other bunches as they open up. I always loved these flowers as a child. I saw many of them at our local cemetery when I was a child as it was a plant that came back every spring and would show their color through the snow at Easter. Yes, snow, life in the Upper Peninsula of MI at Easter usually had a snow storm. Just enough we had to wear those darn zip up goulashes over our nice new Easter shoes.

My neighbors Forsythia is in full bloom...mine are not so nice and manicure, I have branches come out of the hedgerow at the street behind us. I like to see the long branches swaying in the breeze.

This is Mrs. Squirrel.....she must have about 4 babies she's nursing. Has a large chunk out of her ear and really getting straggly. PS....I think those babies have teeth...time to knock off the free room and board if I were her. She needs Bag Balm bad! LOL, yes there is such a product. You can buy it any where just about, great for hands, heels, anything that needs healing just about. Come in all sizes and in a beautiful green can. Hmmm wonder if pecans would coax her into posing with the can tomorrow?

This and That

Ever see a pregnant Raggedy Ann type of doll? LOL we got them in for baby showers etc. They were pretty popular for a bit, but now we still have several still looking for a good home. We had several old wood highchairs we put them in, looked cute.

This will be my next project. Its in worse shape then the slant type I just did. There is no way to dust this thing as the grain has fuzzed up so much. You can't whipe your hand across it as it will scratch you hard. So I will get busy on that after I get through with my 3 day weekend in Charleston WV for a painting seminar. We will be taking from a "big Brush".......Sharon Hamilton. I guess she is going to try to teach us old dogs new tricks. The prep work on our boards was enough to send us off screaming in the middle of the night. So I can't imagine how much color mixing there is going to be for the rest of the work. Maybe, or.....maybe not, you will see a finished or semi finished piece on here in the near future.

Its finished!

The little cupboard is completed. That is after I had to correct a very little problem I created for myself. I put all three, not just one, but all three chickens up side down on the boards. The holes for the hinges were now on the wrong side. Sigh....more work for myself. So I filled the holes, painted the frames and drilled out new holes. Finally got the cabinet back together.

This is it out on the floor of our little shop. This is the main room, with 6 more rooms full of fun stuff too.

My first needle felting

Don't roll over laughing here.....I only poked my finger 3 times with that very sharp needle! This was my very first attempt at needle felting. I felt pretty smug if I say so myself. RThis little guy is about 3" high. I guess I kind of liked it, just wished I knew more about what I was actually doing. Its like carving with wool...LOL.

Small door unit from the shop

This is the small unit I have been working on for the shop. The girls bought a load up in WV and the products were very poorly made. The construction woods varied on each
piece like one board was good pine, but the others were taken off wood pallets.

The black paint consisted of watered down acrylic which greatly raised the grains in the differen woods. They were barely touched with sand paper, leaving them to snag on anyone that walked by or touched them. Dusting was out of the question. I had to take a blow dryer to dust it. I have redid several of the wall racks with shelves , but this is the first of several pieces of furniture. I have another one like this, but with out the slant top.

This is the finished piece. I have to put the hinges on after I rewdrill for the holes.
Seemed I painted on all three of the boards upside down.....sigh. I will drill them then fill the other holes and paint the frames and it will be done. I think the one without the slant top but still has three doors will be done the same way but I think rabbits will be in them.

Thank You All

I want to thank all of you who have wrote me or responded here for the wonderful compliments.  LOL, its a real ego trip in our own little world.  The chair will be put together this week sometime, then I will post the finished piece.  I sure hope who wins it in the silent auction realizes just how much work is in it.  This is to be auctioned the 15th of April at a Spring Gala Ball.  A black tie affair.  From what I have heard there is usually 500 or so in attendance.  LOL, won't be us......my husband refuses to buy a black tie!

Ornaments for the Seasonal Chair

I finished up ornaments that will hang with each season on the corner of the back of the chair. Shara had shown the heart and the pear, but the other two were what I had on hand made with tin. The heart is puffy and meant to go with spring, then I had the tin pocket and did my own thing on it for summer. The pear is puffy with a leaf that is separated from the pear. This one is for the fall seat. The last one is a tin stocking with my own thing on it for the winter seat. With the two I did with my own design, I used pieces of the designs from the seats.

Chair Tops

I have finished the actual painting of the tops to the chair with the four season. There is a main seat that is black and covered with felt. These tops individually fit on top to show what season it is. There is only one board and 3 small ornaments to store this way.

I hope to finish up the 4 ornaments sometime today to be able to spray them. The sun is out and its a bit crisp but its a good time to spray, no breeze either. As I finish things I will post it here.

Latest Project TURTLES....

This is my latest project on the side. I just finished the second season of the chair and currently working on the third seat with part of the 4th seat started too.

These are from a pattern designed by Chris Haughey of Cupboard Dist. in the current Painting magazine. I couldn't get a large basket like the one she used, so settled for a smaller one at Hobby Lobby. The feet are turtles in their shells done on 2 1/2 " balls and glued and screwed into the bottom of the baskets. This is made for a potted plant holder.
Loads of fun to make and giggle at the looks on the faces of the turtles.
